Breastfeeding Support
Here at The Holland Clinic we know what a personal decision breastfeeding can be for new mums and how difficult it can be to establish. We want to let all mums out there know that if they are after a helping hand, we are here to provide support and advice that will support both you and bubs.
Tips to help you prepare and succeed with breastfeeding:
Make sure you attend a breastfeeding workshop prior to baby’s arrival, they are a valuable way to understand the basics around breastfeeding and what to do when faced with issues.
Work out what is the best position and attachment style that is comfortable for both you and your baby.
Try to feed on demand, eventually you will understand your baby’s cues, and this is a great way to ensure you are producing enough milk for bubs.
Be kind and patient with yourself, remember that breastfeeding is a skill both you and baby have to learn, and it will take time.
Seek support from experts if you are having difficulty or feeling overwhelmed – speak to your midwife, maternal child health nurse, health practitioner or a help line such as the Australian Breastfeeding Association (https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/breastfeeding-helpline)
